We all know massage therapy is a fabulous way to keep your muscles feeling loose and relaxed, but did you know there are a variety of add-ons that provide additional benefits to enhance your service? Here are a few options we currently have going on at our Burnsville salon (and why you should give them a try):

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy is an ancient healing method that uses suction to pull on your skin and increase blood flow to affected areas. It has a variety of potential benefits, including:

  • Pain Relief: Arguably its most well-known and popular benefit, cupping can help reduce pain by stimulating the release of endorphins, the body’s natural pain relievers. It can also improve blood flow to the affected area, which can reduce pain-causing inflammation.
  • Improved Circulation: The vacuum effect created by cupping draws blood to the surface of the skin, which can help oxygenate tissues and reduce muscle tension.
  • Detoxification: Cupping is also believed to help remove toxins from the body by increasing lymphatic drainage.
  • Muscle Relaxation: Coupling can help release tight muscles and improve flexibility (probably why so many professional athletes do it).
  • Reduced Stress and Anxiety: Cupping can help to promote relaxation and reduce stress by stimulating the release of serotonin and dopamine, hormones that have mood-boosting effects.
  • Improved Skin Health: Cupping helps to increase blood flow to the skin, which can improve skin tone and texture.

Stimulating Scalp Massage

  • Stimulating scalp massage involves using fingertips, hands, or tools to apply gentle to moderate pressure to the scalp in circular motions. Benefits include:
  • Improves Scalp Health: This kind of massage helps remove dead skin cells, excess oil, and product buildup. It can also help balance sebum production for both oily and dry scalps.
  • Promotes Hair Growth: By stimulating hair follicles and increasing blood flow, scalp massages can deliver more oxygen and nutrients to the hair roots, which may strengthen them and reduce hair loss.
  • Strengthens Hair Follicles: The massaging action can invigorate and strengthen hair follicles, reducing the risk of hair breakage.
  • Reduces Stress: Scalp massages can induce a relaxation response, which can help to lower levels of cortisol, the primary stress hormone. Relieving tension in the scalp can also help with headache and migraine symptoms.
  • Promotes Relaxation: This service can help to release endorphins, the body’s natural mood lifters and painkillers, contributing to an overall increased sense of well-being.
  • Relieve Tension Headaches: According to the American Massage Therapy Association, scalp massage may help reduce the perceived pain, tension, intensity, and duration of these types of headaches.

Reflexology Massage

Reflexology massage is an alternative therapy that involves applying pressure to specific points on the feet, hands, or ears. It is based on the belief that these points correspond to different organs, systems, and muscles in the body. Here are some of the potential benefits:

  • Reduced Stress and Anxiety: Stimulating reflex points can promote relaxation and reduce stress hormones.
  • Improved Sleep: Reflexology can help calm the body and mind, leading to better sleep quality.
  • Pain Relief: Applying pressure to reflex points may help relieve pain associated with conditions such as headaches, migraines, and back pain.
  • Enhanced Detoxification: By stimulating the lymphatic system, reflexology may help remove toxins from the body.
  • Improved Circulation: Massaging reflex points can help to promote blood flow and improve circulation throughout the body.
  • Improved Mood: Reflexology can release endorphins, which have mood-boosting effects.
  • Reduced Fatigue: By promoting relaxation and improving circulation, reflexology can also help combat fatigue symptoms.
  • Improved Foot Health: Reflexology massage can help relieve foot pain and improve foot flexibility.

Winter is right around the corner, which means it’s time to start preparing your skin for cold weather! We offer lots of different services and products at Cole’s to help restore and hydrate your skin all season long, but here are some fan favorites:

Our Dermaglow facial service helps get rid of dead skin cell buildup as well as peach fuzz and unwanted hair while our amazing masks push hydration back into the skin.

Another good option is our Ultra Hydration Lift treatment. This service comes with a chemical lift, a more invasive treatment that’s best to do during the winter months when the outdoor sun is not so harsh. Chemical lifts help with everything from acne, aging, sun damage, texture, tone, and even pore size.

Procell Micro Channeling is another great winter treatment. It uses small needles to trigger a collagen release wound response in the skin, which helps to plump up the skin and get rid of fine lines!

Product-wise, we’ve got you covered! During the winter our skin loses water, so it’s a good idea to add a thicker moisturizer to your routine to help lock in whatever you have. Using an oil is also a smart option, but we know not everyone loves the feeling and texture of oil. If that’s you, try Eminence’s new Ashwagandha Ultra-Rich Restorative Cream. It’ll give your skin the moisture it craves! The line is all about relaxation and restoration, and the Ashwagandha ingredient helps calm not only you but your skin as well. Plus, 89% of users noticed resorption in just 14 days!

If you’re not sure what your skin needs or what product you should be using or switching out, you can always book a free skin consultation online with our estheticians. It gives you some one on one time with our salon professionals to help answer questions, and you can also use the time to discuss and book any future appointments. See you soon!

Isabelle A. has been an esthetician at our Burnsville salon since October 2023. You can book an appointment with her here and find her on Instagram @isabelleesthestics.

When the summer sun is out and you’re spending lots of time outdoors, the last thing you want to deal with is melting mascara or other high-maintenance beauty routines. Thankfully, a lash lift offers an effortless solution for beautiful lashes all season long!

What Is A Lash Lift, Exactly?

A lash lift is essentially a perm for your natural lashes. (Don’t worry, we aren’t talking about the perms of the 1980s!) Using a safe chemical solution, your lashes are lifted and curled upward, which creates the illusion of longer, more voluminous lashes. The treatment typically takes 45-60 minutes and lasts anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks, depending on your natural lash cycle.

Why Are Lash Lifts Perfect For Summer?

Hot and humid summer days are not exactly makeup-friendly. With a lash lift, no matter how warm it gets outside, your lashes stay curled and defined — no pinching eyelash curler tools required! It’s also a great service for clients who prefer a more natural look. Unlike lash extensions, these are your own lashes … just better. A lift simply enhances what you already have.

For Best Results, Pair With A Tint!

If you have lighter-colored lashes (blondes, we’re looking at you), pairing your lash lift with a tint service allows you to skip your makeup bag altogether this summer. During the lifting process, your tech adds a safe, dark-colored tint to give your natural lashes a mascara-like appearance.

How To Care For Your Lash Lift

Protect your investment and help your lift last as long as possible by sticking to the following tips:

  • Skip the waterproof mascara: You can still wear mascara over your lash lift (and tint, if applicable) — lots of clients do! But make sure you’re using a regular formula, since waterproof formulas can weaken the lift over time.
  • Keep Lashes Dry for 24 Hours: After your appointment, avoid water, steam, or eye makeup for a full day to ensure best results.
  • Use Lash Serum: To keep your lashes strong and nourished, apply a conditioning serum regularly. We love Revitalash’s line of products!

If you’re looking for a summer-ready beauty solution that saves time, simplifies your routine, and makes your eyes look lifted and bright, a lash lift is absolutely worth it. It’s the ultimate warm-weather beauty hack that gives you a wide awake, fresh-faced look with zero effort. Ditch the curler, skip the mascara, and let your natural lashes shine!

From your head to your toes, we’ve got all of the hottest summer trends covered here at Cole’s! Here’s what’s popular this season:

Hair: Half-Up Soft Waves

When it comes to hair, this summer is all about embracing effortless, natural movement, making soft waves a must-have. Whether you’re aiming for a relaxed, beachy vibe or a more polished “mermaid wave” look, texture is key and can be enhanced with some light styling products. Half-up styles are also super popular right now. They help keep your hair out of your face while still showing off length and texture, striking a balance between casual chic and refined sophistication!

Skin: Dermaplaning + High-Quality Products

Summer is a perfect time to reset your skin with a facial. We have tons of options at Cole’s, but the add-on everyone is asking for right now is dermaplaning! This service uses a medical grade scalpel to gently get rid of any peach fuzz while also exfoliating dead skin and buildup. It’s great for those bright summer days when every single facial hair seems to glisten in the sun, and your skin and makeup will look so smooth.

Another big trend in skincare is looking at a product’s ingredients — is this stuff actually good for my skin, or is the product going viral for no reason? At Cole’s, we use skincare lines for professional use only, and we personalize your experience based on your specific skincare goals. Eminence is an all-natural brand that only uses plants, foods, and minerals! They also plant a tree and help a child in hunger with all your purchases. I personally love knowing I’m doing more than just helping my skin every time I do my skincare routine.

Nails: Every Color of the Rainbow

It’s time to ditch the closed-toe shoes and let your pedicure shine. This summer’s polish trends are all about bold expression, playful energy, and a little bit of nostalgia. Timeless shades like classic reds continue to make their mark, offering a look that’s both chic and sophisticated. Try Gelish’s Scandalous, or Stand Out for a deeper tone.

If you’re feeling adventurous, neon hues are making a big splash, especially vibrant pinks and electric corals that practically glow in the sunlight. Craving something cool and refreshing? Ocean blues in shades from turquoise to deep sea navy are trending, capturing a dreamy coastal vibe. And don’t forget the sunshine itself! Bold yellows are brightening things up and giving a cheerful twist to any summer look.

The Let’s Roll collection from Gelish and Morgan Taylor is right on point with these summer colors, making it the perfect go-to for updating your pedicure game this season. Book that salon appointment and get your toes ready to turn heads!

Treat yourself this Mother’s Day to some of our team’s favorites here at Cole’s Salon!

When it comes to pampering, any of our spa treatments promise to deliver amazing results and relaxation … but my favorite by far is our Ultimate Facial. After a consultation, our estheticians come up with a customized treatment to give your skin exactly what it needs. Bonus: The facial, hand and arm massage provides a peaceful wave of relaxation. It’s perfect for unwinding from a busy week or to kick off your weekend with some “me” time.

If you’re looking for more of a results-driven service, try our Spa Peel. This service combines a Chemical Peel, which targets fine lines, wrinkles and/or hyperpigmentation, with our Classic Facial. It’s like getting two services at one appointment! What I love most is how the Chemical Peel helps clients work toward specific desired results while still giving them the traditional, relaxing benefits of a Classic Facial.

An amazing blowout is next on my list of must-have services for Mother’s Day. Stop in and let one of our designers give you a luxurious shampoo and style. Not only do you look fabulous for a date night or girls’s night out, but a great blowout lasts for days! It’s like a gift that keeps on giving.

And of course, any day is a great day for a pedicure, but Mother’s Day especially, right in time for sandal season. Better yet, get a manicure and pedicure to give your hands and feet a little TLC. Or, up the ante and level up your services with our Eminence Organics Skin Care offerings. While you’re here, you can even book all of your summer pedi appointments to keep your toes on point.

Let our team help you choose a service that fits your wants and your needs. Book an appointment today!

As an advanced practice esthetician, Grace J. from our Cedar Cliff salon gets asked all kinds of skin-related questions by her clients. And while everyone’s skin goals are different (and can even shift over time), one reliable constant is anti-aging. The skin on our eyelids and beneath our eyes is the first to show signs of aging, stress, and lack of sleep … three things most of us do everything in our power to avoid.

The good news is we live in an era when advanced, results-driven eye crémes and gels are readily accessible. But do we really need them? Which one works best? Can you apply them the same way you’d apply lotion?

Here, Grace J. answers all of these questions and more to help get you started on your eye créme journey. We bet it’ll become your new favorite step in your skincare routine!

Why Do I Need Eye Créme?

The number one question I get from my clients about eye crémes is, “Can’t I just use my facial moisturizer as my eye créme? Do they have to be two separate products?” And the answer is yes! Let’s talk about why.

The skin on your eyelids is actually the thinnest on your entire body. This means it can be very reactive and sensitive, so what you’re putting on it matters. Using a product that’s too heavy can result in clogged pores and even milias, which are small white bumps containing old, dead skin that gets trapped under your new skin. Milias have to be professionally extracted by your esthetician or dermatologist, so why not prevent it if we can? Eye crème textures can vary, but they don’t have the same heavy formulas as our facial moisturizers. The rest of our skin needs a thicker layer of moisturizer, but not our eye area!

Also, the goals you have for your under eye aren’t necessarily the same goals you have for the rest of your face. Eye crémes are specifically formulated with active ingredients that target common concerns like dark circles, puffiness, hollowness, excessive dryness, and fine lines. Although eye crémes are typically hydrating, this isn’t their main benefit. They are designed to target a specific concern, with hydration being a bonus. Just like if we were treating acne, sun damage, or texture, our whole face is not a one size fits all. We spot treat what we need to where we need correction. This goes for eye crémes as well. For best possible results, it’s always best to cater to what we need exactly where we need it.

How to Choose the Right Eye Créme for You

Choosing the right eye créme can be so overwhelming, and most of the time there are multiple options per brand! This is where you really have to be observant and get up close and personal with your skin:

Is your eye area always crinkled, to the point that fine lines are getting more prominent? You’ll want to look into eye crémes with stem cell extract, peptides, and even retinol. My favorite eye créme for fine lines is the MAX™ eye crème from IMAGE Skincare

Is your eye area darker than you’d like, making you always look like you only got three hours of sleep? Look into eye crèmes with caffeine and vitamin C. My favorite for dark circles is IMAGE Skincare’s ILUMA intense brightening eye crème.

Is the area around your eyes drier than the rest of your face, which means makeup has a tough time laying down nicely? Try eye crèmes with hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and vitamin E. My favorite is the VITAL C hydrating eye recovery gel from IMAGE Skincare.

Dealing with all three skin concerns? You can never go wrong with the IMAGE MD® restoring eye recovery gel!

How Do I Apply Eye Créme?

Unfortunately, eye crèmes are not necessarily self-explanatory. Slathering it on and rubbing it in like a regular facial moisturizer won’t get you the results you want. It’s a specific, goal-targeted product, and it has a specific application method to ensure its effectiveness!

To start, put a pea-sized amount on one of your ring fingers. Then, rub the product in between both of your ring fingers. Do small tapping motions under your eyes, and then continue this tapping motion on the sides of the eyes, as well as in the crease of the eyelids underneath the eyebrow.

Tapping is going to prevent any harsh tugging, which will only deepen any fine lines on this delicate skin. Your ring finger is the weakest on your hand, making it the gentlest option.

Now, Watch the Results Come In!

Eye crèmes are a staple in any solid skincare routine. This thin, sensitive skin needs their active ingredient-packed, intentional formulas to keep your eye area looking its best. And while we love a good facial moisturizer and may be tempted to slather it all over our face, it’s best to skip the eye area to avoid any clogged pores or milias, and instead think of eye crème as a spot treatment for our eye-specific concerns.

Questions? Talk to your esthetician about which eye crème may work for you! They’ll keep your goals in mind and help you choose a product to best address your concerns.

We are so ready for spring here at Cole’s, and so are our nails! Sarah B. is one of our fabulous nail technicians, and here she walks you through four of this season’s top manicure trends.

Rounded Nails: Get your nails into shape this spring and try a more rounded tip. Curving your nails at the end can help give the illusion of a longer nail without actually needing the extra length. This shape is especially great for clients who naturally have shorter nails (or who just prefer a shorter nail).

Glass / Soap / Jelly Nails: Whatever you want to call this trend, it’s all the same! These shiny, semi-sheer polishes work for any nail length and offer a perfect natural-looking style, making it a great option for everyone. I especially like a shiny, translucent pink shade — it works for the office, for a night out, and even for a vacation!

Pastel Colors: Pastels are always popular in the spring, for obvious reasons, but this year we’re especially leaving into the blues. We recommend Gelish’s Best Buds or Gift It Your Best for a beautiful blue color. You can also try a twist on the classic French with a pink on pink color scheme. This look has been spotted on celebrities like Kylie Jenner, so you know it’s a good one!

Chrome Finishes: Yes, we are still loving chromes! There are now so many chrome colors and styles out there, but the most popular one we’re seeing lately is a glazed chrome that can be worn with any shade of polish. Another great option is iridescent chrome for a more opal look.

These styles will be like a breath of fresh air for your next manicure. Book an appointment at Cole’s and get ready for spring!

Our stylists love helping their clients with hair and skincare questions, from which products to try to which cut might work best with their face shape.

Lately, though, our team has been getting a lot of questions about one topic specifically: hair growth! And in this blog, Carolyn A. from our Savage salon answers some of them.

How important is a healthy scalp when it comes to hair growth?

Very important! Our scalp is just as important as the skin on our face, yet we put more effort in taking care of our skin than our scalp. If you have a blemish or a new wrinkle? There’s a cream for that. We invest whatever it takes, whatever the cost, to fix what we see in the mirror. But what about the areas we don’t see?

Your scalp is the foundation from which your hair grows, and neglecting your scalp’s health can lead to a number of issues, including hair thinning. The types of products we expose to our scalp can greatly affect the health of that environment, which in turn affects the health of the hair. A well-conditioned, well-taken-care-of scalp can promote new hair growth.

Will a healthy scalp help me grow my hair longer?

For this question, the answer lies in the health of your hair follicles. It’s vital to keep your scalp clear of excess product and buildup because hair grows easier when it doesn’t have to break through all that accumulated product. And every season can bring its own irritations to your scalp. The winter months lack the humidity and moisture our skin needs, and as a result people get flaky, irritated scalps. I recommend my clients switch up their shampoo and conditioner from winter to summer to increase the amount of moisture their scalp is getting.

Also, any client who uses daily hair products and/or who goes days between washes should always add a clarifying shampoo, like Bumble and bumble Sunday Shampoo, once a week. I like to think of it as a reset button for your scalp and hair. A daily shampoo can only cleanse the surface. That’s why most shampoos instruct you to “lather, rinse, repeat.” If it doesn’t lather well during the first wash, it’s best to repeat and wash twice to get everything clean. Most people don’t do this, so using a clarifier once in a while is like insurance for a healthier scalp.

Which brings me to …

How frequently should I wash my hair for optimal hair growth?

This varies for different scalp types. Clients with oily scalps should wash more frequently to prevent buildup. They may also need other products like scrubs to exfoliate excess oils, something daily shampoos don’t deliver. I recommend Bumble and Bumbles ‘Seaweed Whipped Scalp Scrub. Clients with normal scalps should wash every 2 to 3 days, and clients with flaky scalps may need a prescription shampoo with ingredients like salicylic acid to help prevent dandruff. If you have a dry scalp, you can wash less frequently, using moisturizing shampoo, like the Oribe Moisture and Control line, every 3 to 5 days. This will help nourish the scalp and hair, leading to hair growth.

How often should I get a haircut if I’m trying to grow it out?

Most people’s hair grows about a half an inch per month, and getting regular haircuts can promote healthier hair growth by getting rid of your split ends. Once your ends split, that split travels up the whole hair strand, making your hair more likely to break off. Does your hair have a lot of flyaways? Chances are it’s the result of not getting it trimmed often enough. Or it may be from heat, chemical, and/or mechanical damage. If you can avoid these, your hair will stay healthy as it grows.

I personally recommend a haircut every 4 to 6 weeks, but be sure to consult your stylist for their recommendation based on your hair type and style. I once had a client who could never get her hair to grow. I recommended she come in more frequently for dry cuts every 3 to 4 weeks at the first sign of breakage. We would trim just a quarter inch to get rid of the split ends, and every third or fourth cut we’d give it a half-inch trim. Soon, we were able to get it inches longer than we’d ever been able to before! That experience convinced me that to grow healthier hair, you must prioritize time at the salon for a bit more maintenance and invest in the right product regimen for your hair type. You’ll have a healthier scalp in no time — and longer, fuller hair.

Need some help revitalizing your scalp? Looking for the right clarifying product for your hair? Worried that your hair isn’t growing as fast as you’d like? Our team is ready to help. Stop in to shop or book an appointment today.

Winter weather can be so harsh on our skin, with cold air, indoor heating, and low overall humidity all contributing to dryness, flakiness, and dullness. Coming in for a Hydrafacial treatment is a perfect way to keep your skin hydrated, refreshed, and glowing during the frigid winter months. Here’s why:

1. It provides deep hydration.

Cold air strips all of the moisture from your skin, leaving it feeling tight and dry. A Hydrafacial replenishes that lost hydration, giving you a plump and radiant complexion.

2. It exfoliates gently yet effectively.

Unlike harsh scrubs or peels that can irritate winter-stressed skin, a Hydrafacial gently exfoliates and removes dead cells, revealing fresh, healthy skin.

3. It boosts circulation and glow.

Winter weather can slow down your circulation, leading to a dull, tired appearance. The Hydrafacial improves blood flow, giving your skin a natural glow.

4. It soothes sensitivity.

Winter can cause redness and irritation. The Hydrafacial uses nourishing serums to help calm and protect your seasonally sensitive skin.

5. It enhances product absorption.

When you have clean, exfoliated skin, your moisturizers and serums can penetrate deeper, making them more effective.

Don’t let winter dull your glow! Treat yourself to a Hydrafacial and keep your skin soft, hydrated, and luminous all season long. Our estheticians are ready to pamper you — book your appointment today.

The new year has a little something for everyone when it comes to nail trends. Maybe you’re more of a neutral colors kind of person. Maybe you love glitter and shine. Short nails, long nails or somewhere in between, we’ve got you covered. Here, Sarah from our Burnsville spa details some of this year’s most popular looks.

1. Mocha & Metallics

One color — or more like one color spectrum — that’s topping everyone’s favorites in 2025 is mocha mousse. Now, we all might have a slightly different shade of brown in mind when we think of mocha, and that’s the whole point. It’s just like how everyone’s preferred coffee drink comes in a variety of brown hues! From light and frothy to rich and deep, any color on the mocha spectrum will provide a perfect neutral tone to try on your tips this year. We especially recommend the Gelish / Morgan Taylor shades Want to Cuddle? and Don’t Bring Me Down. Metallics are also popular right now in a variety of shades, like Gelish’s Rhythm & Blues and No Way Rosé. Or, you can make any polish iridescent by adding Gelish’s Izzy Wizzy on top of your chosen color!

2. Short & Sweet

Short nails are slowly making a comeback, especially since they’re more lifestyle-friendly for so many of us. The next time you get a manicure, try going for a more rounded shape instead of square. It gives a petite look that might be easier for you to maintain between appointments. Your nail tech can also help you find the best shape for you.

3. Almond Nails

This shape continues to be popular in 2025, and with this trend, you can wear your nails long or short! This shape also looks amazing with a French tip.

4. Builder Nails

Everyone seems to be talking about builder nails these days … but what exactly are they? Builder gel or hard gel is an artificial alternative that we have offered at Cole’s for more than 20 years. We love having the gel option for our guests, as nail enhancements are not one size fits all. Some like the lighter feel of builder gel or just want the extra strength that it provides. Like any artificial enhancement, builder nails do require maintenance that can vary for each person and be built out for extra length. Builder gel is also a great option when you break a nail before a special event. We can add some to a broken nail to keep your manicure picture perfect.

5. Cat Eye Nails

This trend uses metallic glitter polish that gets manipulated with a magnet to create different looks. There are endless possibilities with this trend, all of which create gorgeous, shimmering looks. Look out for the Gelish Aurora collection, arriving in February.

6. Chrome!

This 2024 trend continues to be a favorite in the new year, and it’s easy to see why. It doesn’t matter how long your nails are, or what shape you wear them — chrome works on everyone. It can even be done on a French tip, especially on longer, almond-shaped nails!

Whether you want to try something new or stick to your usual, we’ll take care of you. Book your next mani and pedi at Cole’s!
