As the seasons shift, so do our hair color cravings. Fall is always about cozy textures and richer palettes, but this year’s hair trends are taking it a step further — think luminous shine, luxury tones and effortless finishes. From dimensional blondes to moody hues, the spotlight for Fall 2025 is all about glass-like shine that elevates any shade.

Luxury Blonde

Blonde is never just blonde anymore. This season, the trend leans into high-end, refined blondes with soft dimension. Gone are the brassy, one-note shades. Instead, stylists are creating blends that feel natural, lived-in and ultra-luxurious. Think buttery champagne, creamy beige and icy ribbons layered with depth. Perfect for clients who want blonde that feels elevated without screaming “high maintenance.”

Dimensional Depth

Dimension is everything this fall. Whether you’re brunette, blonde or red, the key is to let light and shadow play together. Subtle balayage, face-framing brightness and lowlight weaving give hair a sense of movement and richness. The goal isn’t high-contrast highlights but rather a multi-tonal effect that feels both soft and striking.

Effortless Hair Color

There’s a big shift toward hair color that looks chic but effortless — almost like you woke up with it. This means blurred root melts, soft transitions and shades that grow out gracefully. Moody Tones

Fall wouldn’t be fall without deeper hues, and this year’s moody tones are bolder than ever. Espresso brunettes, rich mahoganies, smoky coppers and even inky blacks are making a comeback. These shades bring drama, shine, and sophistication, perfect for when the air turns crisp and the wardrobe shifts darker.

Glass Hair: The Biggest Trend

Above all, the biggest trend of the season is shine. Stylists are calling it glass hair — that reflective, silky, liquid finish that makes any color pop. It’s not just about the shade you choose, but how healthy, smooth, and radiant your hair looks under the light.

Here at Cole’s we are so incredibly lucky to partner with Wella, an international award-winning hair color brand. They have a huge network of trainers and a team of signature global artists. This team travels the globe teaching the technical applications of color and the artistry of hair. And this past January, we were lucky enough to host Aubrey Loots. Aubrey’s reputation precedes him as a renowned Wella Global Top Artist. That said, when I was given the opportunity to help such a talented artist showcase his work, I couldn’t pass it up!

Aubrey put on an incredible show while teaching us. His lesson included 6 models, all with very different inspirational looks. He taught us the importance of color placement based on the way the hair would be styled, especially when it comes to a formal style like a bridal updo or special event.

This color is making a comeback.

Aubrey showed us some upcoming trends of warmer golden blondes. Yes I said that right, warm blondes are making a comeback! Aubrey shared subtle ways to transition our clients to warmer tones, including changes as simple as adding richness back in with the right lowlight and a soft gold toner. He reminded us not to do too much at once and to take baby steps.

One thing that he touched on, that I personally loved, is knowing the color line so well, that you create a knowing intuition of how to take calculated risks and get incredible results. That’s where the artistry of hair lives, in knowing all of our tools so well, and knowing our clients hair, that we can create magic.

Starting the Day in Style

Estheticians started the festivities early with a class at our learning center, located at the Burnsville salon. We started with a complimentary breakfast, as well as gifts from our IMAGE support team to get the day started!

We spent the morning learning about new skincare products that will be launching in March (which we are sooooo excited about!) and observing a live demonstration of a new and improved peel protocol. One of the things I love most about IMAGE Skincare is their constant drive to continue to improve their line and their ability to stay on top of new, innovative ingredients to improve their products. The level of education we receive from IMAGE is always top-notch, with no details left behind. By the time our Image class came to an end, we were eager about new products and the event to come that evening!

Celebrating 20 years with Image’s Founder

Our nighttime celebration was the first partnership I have had the opportunity to attend in my time at Cole’s, so I was extremely excited for the night to come! Our evening event was held at the Ames Center, welcoming us with music, food, and beverages to start the night. No detail was left behind!

Janna Ronert, the founder and chairwoman of IMAGE Skincare, was our guest speaker. She began the night by sharing her journey in the skincare world, which eventually led her to founding IMAGE Skincare. The journey she shared was incredibly inspiring for each and every one in attendance. Throughout the night, Janna touched on a few of her most lived by quotes, which I felt to be extremely powerful. 

“The Lazy Are Never Lucky”
I find this message to be an important quote to live by, especially in our industry. In a commission based industry, you get out what you put into it. Being passive to your success is not going to get you anywhere; there isn’t any special luck that will determine your success, only hard work.

Education has always and will always be Doug Cole’s number one focus at Cole’s Salon. I feel IMAGE Skincare finds the same value in education as Cole’s, which is made apparent through their countless educational opportunities. 

As the night continued, we celebrated members of our team and their successes throughout the years with IMAGE. By the time our day of celebration had ended, I had never felt more grateful to be a part of such an incredible company and partnership with IMAGE Skincare.

How Does Self-Love Help Me Reach My Other Goals?

Self-love is so much more than booking yourself a spa day (although we do highly recommend those here at Cole’s Salon!). It is about creating a routine of health for yourself from a place of affirming that you’re worth it! When you can build in an intentional schedule of rest & recovery, partnered with exercise and mindful activities, you can begin to feel more energized and present for the rest of your life. Giving priority to yourself will increase your productivity (at work!), can give you more patience (with your kids), and overall give you a sense of balance in the busyness of life.

The Power of Three

Building a whole new routine doesn’t happen overnight. Start with one area you crave the most and focus there. For example, if you are continually exhausted try building a few moments of rest each week. This can look like finding an activity like reading or knitting and setting aside 30 minutes, three times a week to enjoy it. Or, it could look like finding three evenings a week when you can go to bed 30 minutes earlier. The goal would be to schedule three, 30-minute commitments to yourself this week.

As you begin to see success in this new routine, build on your habit. If you have been successful in giving yourself three 30-minute sessions of rest, build in three 30-minute sessions of exercise next, or make three healthier choices when looking at your meals for the week. The power of three is helpful as it builds consistency and routine but it is not overwhelming in a week’s time.

Take Out the Guesswork, Find Your Team

When we hold ourselves accountable to self-love goals, it can be easy to get pulled into other obligations and let the time we set aside go. Or, to completely miss the point of intentional “me time” when we get caught in our heads with our new routines, wondering things like “was I supposed to do cardio or weights first? Am I even doing this right? Will this really work for me?” 

Just like working with a personal trainer can help you kickstart a new routine you are confident in, with set appointments to stay on track, making an appointment with a pampering expert means you can relax into your new routine, knowing you are starting on the best possible foot! How I chose my word

Reflect

First, reflect on the past year. For some of us this might be looking back at a journal we kept. For me, I spent some time looking through photos of 2022. They captured so many highlights of my family and friends.They reminded me of the growth I experienced and the setbacks.They provided the highlight reel for me to think about how I wanted 2023 to look for myself and those closest to me.

It’s Goal Time 

Second, I wrote down a few goals I have for myself both personally and professionally in 2023. What am I hoping to accomplish this year, what relationships do I want to strengthen? How do I want to make an impact on others?    

Time to Visualize

A vision board is a collage of images that expresses your goals and intentions, it helps visualize where you are going. I used my vision board to help my brain piece together which words resonated with me the most. If this feels like too much work you can simply brainstorm a list of words that resonate with you.

These three steps helped me choose my word for 2023. I hope it can help you choose the word you want to live in 2023 as well!

If you’re itching to make some sort of change to your look in 2023, you’ve come to the right place. We’re not saying you have to cut off all your hair, add extensions or bleach your hair white to make an impact; there are plenty of small tweaks and techniques that give you a “new me” feeling without the big reality show-worthy dramatic transformation.

Flutter those lashes.

A super easy way to add a little touch of je ne sais quoi to your beauty routine is to visit us for a set of lash extensions. They can be tailored to your preferences, whether you want long and dramatic or subtle but statement-making. If that feels like too much of a commitment, try a lash lift and tint for a little oomph. Make your morning routine even easier by adding on a brow tint so you can skip a few steps of the getting ready process.

Get bangs.

The eternal question: Should I get bangs? If you’ve been thinking about it since watching Emily in Paris season three, the answer is yes! Cutting a long fringe can radically change your look without sacrificing all-over length, and opting for a longer style means you can sweep them to the side or pull them back on days you’re not feeling the bang life.

Try a new lip color.

If you’re known for your pink lipstick, why not shock your friends, family and coworkers when you show up with a nude or a deep red? It seems silly, but giving your go-to colors a rest for a few weeks in favor of something out of your comfort zone can be a big confidence boost and who knows? You may just become a red lipstick person after all. Our team would love to help you pick out your next signature shade!

Add texture with lots of layers.

There’s a reason the shag and the wolf cut are trending so hard right now — they’re fun, a little retro and they bring out the best in your natural hair texture, giving your look a Stevie Nicks-style ‘70s cool whether your hair is straight, wavy or curly. Even Lizzo got a wolf cut! 

Add a color gloss at your next appointment.

You don’t have to dye your hair dark or go platinum blonde, promise. (But if you want to, we know just the place to do it.) At your next salon visit, ask your stylist about a color gloss or a simple shine gloss; it can add warmth to brunette, red or warm blonde tones or cool things down, and a clear gloss simply adds extra shine. It’s not a huge change, but you’ll sparkle all the way home.

Take a look at your skincare routine.

Time to face the music: Is your skincare working? If you’re feeling dull and blah, it may be time to adjust your cleansers, serums and spa treatments. Make an appointment with your favorite Cole’s esthetician to check in, then develop a plan of action to get that glow back. Making regular facial appointments is a great place to start, but your esthi can recommend products that give you the spa vibe at home too. You’ll be ready to take on 2023 with a fresh face and a major glow.

We asked a couple of our designers to share what they learned from the training. 

Olivia B., Senior Designer at Savage

I loved so many things about the texture class, but I’ll highlight some of my favorite takeaways. 

Naomi mentioned that texture doesn’t belong to a race; instead, we all have texture in our hair, whether we are white, brown, or Black. She was passionate about all of us finding the energy and creativity to work with textured hair and helping us understand the meaning of the texture chart. I had a huge aha moment when Naomi taught us how to use water when diffusing hair to help minimize frizz.

Naomi’s knowledge of using leave-in conditioners and oils for textured hair helps. Avocado oil plays a massive role in lock-in and seal hair moisture. When styling textured hair, the Aveda Nutriplenish line works miracles. 

Naomi educated our team on how to use a pressing method when applying cream and oil to the hair. During the pressing technique, instead of simply applying products to one spot on the hair section, she taught us to comb products properly through the hair section by section. This dramatically improves results!

Naomi also showed us a style for our guests called finger coils. This style works for guests who want to air-dry or someone who wants to be fully dry by the time they leave the salon. Finger coils give superb definition and are a style I like to do on myself. 

I can’t wait to give my guests with texture a better experience and help them embrace their curls!

Becca S., Designer at Cedar Cliff

Naomi Dove highlighted the importance of understanding the classification system for hair texture. Many of our guests have questions about the 1A through 4C system, and we’re all better equipped to answer those questions after the texture training. Knowing your texture type allows you to determine how often to wash and condition your hair – a helpful basic for all of us! 

In our climate, the different seasons and weather changes throughout the year can influence the ideal order you apply products to your hair. I can now better advise my guests on how to use products, depending on the season, after Naomi’s class. 

We learned how to enhance curls with simple wash-and-go styles, naturally. Even people with wavy hair can achieve styles that look more curly using techniques like finger coils and diffusing!

But, my favorite thing of all is being able to truly educate all of my guests on their hair texture and helping them embrace whatever texture they have. I can’t wait to bring all of Naomi’s tips and tricks to my guests.

Hairstyles Guaranteed to Turn Heads

Looking to shake up your go-to holiday hair? Hannah shares ways to incorporate timeless elements with this year’s trends.

AN UPDO THAT WILL LAST ALL DAY

Sometimes you need your hair off of your face for a hectic day in the kitchen or with the kiddos, but still want to showcase your length – that’s where a half down-half up look has you covered! Start off by parting your hair down the middle. Leaving some face-framing pieces out first, then dutch braid until you hit the top of your ear. After securing it with bobby pins, repeat on the other side. I added loose curls with my GHD iron, but you could also leave it straight!

GO BIG WITH A BUBBLE BRAID

Want to showcase your festive style, but keep your hair off of your neck? In comes the bubble braid! Gather your hair into a side ponytail, leaving out heavy face-framing. In the ponytail, make a giant bubble braid using different ponytails – I went for bows, but if those aren’t your thing, you could use clear elastics or velvet scrunchies to create this look!

FROM THE FAMILY GATHERING TO THE NYE PARTY

This style really does it all and can take you from a comfy gathering at home to your cocktail hour plans! Section off the crown and tease it to create volume. Then, pull that section into a top knot using a fun ponytail. Leave out your bangs or some face-framing stands.Then pull that section into a top knot using a fun ponytail holder. I curled the remainder of my hair with a GHD curling iron.

Highlight your favorite feature with these bold, but balanced makeup trends

A festive look is all about taking your everyday look to the next level. Stacey shared seasonal trends sure to elevate your usual look to holiday glam this winter!

BOLD BLUSH

Think that you are wearing enough blush? You’re not. Grab your favorite shade and add another layer. Maybe two. Blush this season is very in, and not just on your cheeks. Blend it up to your temples, over the apples of your cheeks, along your cheekbones and even across your brow bone. Cream blush or powder blush both work to achieve this look. It pairs well with minimal makeup on the rest of your face. Think dewy skin, a little mascara, and a pop of color on the lip.

SMOKEY GRUNGE LINER

Like many things from the 90’s, grunge is back and took its smokey liner with it. A smokey grunge liner is a bold look that is easy to achieve. All you need is a soft tipped, rich black eyeliner pencil, a tan eyeshadow, and a black eyeshadow. Use the tan shade as your base and blend it all over the lid. Next, line your lash line. You can line all the way around or just the top. Precision is not necessary. Next blend and smoke out the line with your black eye shadow. Add some mascara and you’re done! This look will elevate a casual outfit like a pair of jeans or a t-shirt. Or you can dress it up and pair it with your cute holiday dress.

SINGLE COLOR SHADOW

Contouring your eyes is great, but sometimes all you need is one color to make the look. This is another look that is simple to achieve and anyone can wear. All colors work with this, but the bolder the better. Pigmented and long wearing shades work best. Blend the shadow all over the lid and leave it there, or blend if softly through the crease. Add a long-lash mascara paired with fresh skin and a soft lip, and you have yourself a fun, fresh, holiday look!

GLITTER EYES

Another super quick and simple look for the holidays is glitter on the eyes. It’s a fun way to be festive and stand out. It pairs well with simplistic makeup on the rest of the face and a lot of mascara or lashes. Choose your favorite shade of glitter. Cream glitter shadows work well, or loose glitter will make you shine.

Express yourself

This time of year is a great time to express yourself. Try one look, or try them all. Hair and makeup are fun to be creative with your own personal style, so play with different looks and find what works for you! And remember, if you feel good in what you are wearing, you are surely radiating that to the rest of the world.
